PBL Service Assignments:
Tuesday, 8/22 1) Check in with Mariah at her office for attendance 2) Today's observation question: What evidence do you see of intentional relationship-building between staff and students? Describe the strategies or structures you see being used, and explain why are they effective. Observe in your assigned classroom for 1 hour (you may take a 15-minute break at the 30- or 45-minute mark, but you should still observe in the classroom for 60 minutes). Take notes using the T-chart method (what did the teacher do? what did the student do?). 3) Answer post in Google Classroom by 2:45pm to receive service credit! 4) Update your service log (in Google Classroom) Wednesday, 8/23 1) Check in with Mariah at her office for attendance 2) Today's observation question: How does the quality of staff-student relationships impact student learning? There's lots of free, drag-and-drop website builders out there! Some options: Weebly, Wix, Google Sites, Wordpress. 3) Create Core Pages for your website:
More important: Moving forward, "website," "DP" and "digital portfolio" all refer to the same thing. 4) Your first blog post! Write a reflection about your class observations this week. What are your answers to the observation questions? What are 5280 teachers doing well already? If you could give advice to 5280 teachers based on what you saw in their classes this week, what would it be? 5) After proof-reading your blog post, publish your website so that it's live. Friday, 8/25 1) Asynchronous check-in on Google Classroom - answer the question by 2:45pm to be considered present today! 2) Make sure service log is updated to today and turn it in for the week. You must turn in your log by 2:45pm to receive credit for hours earned in class this week. 3) Finish the core pages on your DP. Whether or not you finish your DP, turn it in by completing this form (Aliza's DP --> Student DPs--> Update DP Link). Then, when you finish adding everything you need to add, publish your site again, and it will update.

5) Revise and send. HW: Introduce yourself to your service teacher by email, and cc: Aliza and Mariah! Email Etiquette Subject: E-mail Format Dear Students, E-mail is a useful mode of communication, particularly during the school day when teachers tend to be busy and might forget information transmitted orally during the course of the day. You should use email to communicate any of the following types of information: future excused absences, late work excuses, requests for extensions on projects, to schedule a meeting with a teacher, to ask questions you might have that have not been addressed during class, etc… Email should always include a clearly stated purpose, necessary background information, a recommendation or action plan and clear and concise writing. Please keep in mind that you are communicating with a teacher in writing about your work. That means you should read over what you wrote before you send it out and correct any typos or errors. Do not use text message abbreviations or emojis. I'm not "ur bff,” so do not send me emails that read like text messages you would send to a friend. ALWAYS begin your email with a respectful greeting (Dear Aliza, Good morning Mariah, Hello Aliza and Mariah, etc...) and conclude your email with an appropriate closing such as Sincerely/Respectfully/Best Regards, Your Name). Following these guidelines will help you make good impressions not only on your beloved 5280HS teachers, but also with prospective employers and college professors. Sincerely, Aliza Cruz Moore & Mariah Green |
